MODRINA

Lakes, Caves & Valleys of Slovenia

LAKES CAVES VALLEYS

An offline travel companion for Android: turquoise water, an island church, and caves that run for kilometres underground — with the practical notes you actually need once you are standing at the car park.

WHY OFFLINE

A travel guide is needed exactly where the signal is not

Alpine valleys, cave car parks, lake shores an hour from the motorway — the places this app is about are precisely the places a phone stops being useful. A guide that fetches its pages on demand fails at the moment you open it, and one that wants an account first fails slightly earlier than that. Roaming data in a foreign country makes both worse.

So everything is in the download: every page, both languages, the photographs, the practical notes and the search index. The app opens the same underground as it does at home, and it asks for nothing on first launch except which language you would like to read in.

Your trip list lives on the handset. Nothing is uploaded, so the list of places you are planning to visit is not a signal anybody can buy — including, and especially, nobody in the travel business.

THE APP

What is inside Modrina

From Lake Bled and Bohinj to the Postojna and Škocjan cave systems and the green Vipava valley, every place gets its own full page: what makes it special, the things genuinely worth doing there, the best season to visit, and clear notes on how to get there and what to expect when you arrive.

Plan around the seasons, browse each site's highlights and practical tips, and build your own trip list of the places you most want to see. A quick search brings up any spot in seconds. Whether you are after a summer swim, autumn colours or an underground adventure, Modrina helps you pick the right place and make the most of the trip.

Why the water looks like that

Not a place page and no tips — one piece of physics that explains half the photographs in the app. Water is not colourless: it absorbs red light hundreds of times faster than blue. The strip below is white daylight after travelling down to a given depth and back up to your eye, computed from the measured absorption of clean water.

A colour strip and two sliders — no places, no seasons, no directions and nothing to add to a list. Modrina is the part that tells you which lake to stand beside and when to be there.
